The Spotlight Series

The Spotlight Series is a 3-event series in my Bucktown backyard. The goal of the Spotlight Series is to choose local talent & artisans and connect the creativity of what we each do by way of storytelling.

The Spotlight Series has become an excellent gauge for what seynasecreto is, at its essence. I believe that the world turns on the concept of storytelling. We are constantly telling stories as we navigate this human-ness we find ourselves in. A funny anecdote to friends, the repetition of the day’s schedule to our toddlers, our internal reasoning for cancelling a social plan: it’s all story. Unsurprisingly, this idea of narrative comes crashing into our food and beverage life. They not only find beautiful ways to coexist, but with a little intention, they can enhance one another and create some magic.

A local chef makes some happy hour bites—there’s a story about her grandmother in an Albanian kitchen decades ago that puts this cream puff on our plate. A musical duo plays live tunes on a weeknight—what we learn is how they used to sing hymns and have grown over a decade’s time to create music with structure and depth, but about belief sets housed outside the church walls. You sip a cocktail, loving it, cheersing, delighting in the last bit of sun peeking through the apple tree—and then I tell you that you’re loving scotch. It can’t be, you balk, I can’t stand scotch. So we talk about split-bases and single varietals until your glass is empty. Just a few bite-sized examples of how—when we elevate story and incorporate into our sensory experiences on purpose—we can discover and delight in new ways.
